Along with his colleagues Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson, Alexander Girard was one of the leading figures in american design during the postwar era
For the international exhibition "the Nativity"organised by Girard for a showing at the Nelson Gallery of Art in 1962/63, he conceived and crafted a Unique new Nativity set.
He took inspiration for the design from his extensive collection of folk art. Based on the original from the Girard estate in the holdings of the Vitra Museum, the Nativity scene was in 2015 produced in a Gold version for a limited period.
